Hevajra（1）

Hevajra (Happy Vajra) is also a yidam of Anuttara Yoga, also called “Hu Vajra” or “blood-drinking Hevajra” etc. In Tibetan Buddhism, the commonly seen Hevajra has five faces, four feet, sixteen arms and five skulls as a head decoration. The left and right middle hands hold a skull bowl embraces the consort, all other hands hold white skull bowls. In the skull bowls of the 8 hands on the right are a white elephant, blue deer, blue donkey, red bull, grey camel, red person, blue lion, and red cat respectively. In the skull bowls of the hands on the left are a yellow land mother, white water god, red fire god, blue wind god, white sky sun, moon, blue hell king, and yellow money god respectively. Of the 8 faces, three face the front, the middle face is blue, the left face is red and the right face is white; four faces are at the back and they are black; the top face is blue black.

Hevajra has four legs, the right leg is standing bent, the left is half crossed and the other two legs bend, staying peacefully in the lotus sun wheel four ghost overlaying treasure seat in the playing dancing posture. The consort embraced in the main arms is Vajra Nonself Yoga Mother, who is blue grey in colour, with one head and 3 eyes, a curved blade in the right hand and skull bowl in the left hand. The left leg stands bent and the right leg wraps around the waist of the Buddha father.

However, the description as recorded in Hevajra Dakini Illusory Net Discipline Ritual is slightly different:

Eight faces with 8 legs, 16 arms,

Feet stepping on four devils, fearsome and fearsome.

Hair bun as tassel, living in sun and happily sounding.

Black colour very fearsome, vajra as top holding.

“Hong” sounds from the mouth, ash smeared all over body.

Without self all merge equally, equally inducing the four joys.

Smoothly receiving happiness, heart nature without pride.

Native face is black, right face is black,

Left is red and fearsome, top decorated with angry countenance,

        twenty four eyes, the other faces are black.”
